The Kapalua summer music announcement lists a $10 entertainment fee for non-hotel guests at the July 17, August 7 and August 21 concerts. Admission was announced as complimentary for resort guests.
The chef dinners work differently. The Kapalua Wine & Chef Series requires reservations and limits attendance to guests 21 and older. Those are evenings to organize first, then build dinner timing, transportation and the rest of the day around them.
The September Celebration of the Arts belongs in a different category from resort lounge entertainment. Its focus is Hawaiian culture, education and preservation. Approach it as a cultural event rather than simply another night on the entertainment calendar.
If Tonight Is Unscripted, Follow The Music
A fixed-date concert is only one way to spend an evening here. Kapalua has several recurring options that make a last-minute plan possible, provided you confirm the schedule before heading out.
For a sunset that can turn into a full evening
The Hideaway reopened in February as a redesigned indoor-outdoor cocktail lounge overlooking Kapalua Bay. The current resort dining page lists it from 4–10 p.m. daily and promotes nightly performances by Maui musicians. Its reopening announcement placed the music from 7–9 p.m., alongside shared plates, island-inspired cocktails and a dedicated Mai Tai menu.
The natural use case is simple: arrive before sunset, settle in for a drink and stay when the musicians begin. Check the current entertainment time on the day you go, since recurring schedules can shift.
For a lounge evening at The Ritz-Carlton
Alaloa Lounge pairs nightly local music with an open-air setting, sushi and cocktails. Its published food-service hours are 4–9 p.m. The August 7 Marty Dread performance also brings the First Friday Kapalua Concert Series into the room.
This is the useful middle ground between a formal chef dinner and a completely casual stop. You can plan around a named concert or choose an ordinary evening when the music is part of the room rather than the whole agenda.
For a planned dinner or a spontaneous point-side stop
Merriman’s Kapalua advertises nightly live entertainment and accepts dinner reservations from 4–8:30 p.m. Its Oceanfront Point opens at 4 p.m., weather permitting, and does not take reservations.
That distinction solves two different summer questions. Book the dining room when the meal is the anchor. Consider the Point when the day has run long and you want to see whether a casual oceanfront stop is available.
For trivia and a less formal music night
The Pour House at 700 Office Road hosts Wednesday trivia at 6:30 p.m. and recurring live music. Published schedules conflict on the music nights. Kapalua’s resort directory lists Saturday through Monday from 6–9 p.m., while the restaurant’s own site says Friday through Sunday.
Treat it as a good option with a required same-day schedule check. That small step is better than building an evening around a recurring listing that may have changed.
For a Wednesday centered on Hawaiian music
Just south of Kapalua, George Kahumoku Jr.’s Masters of Hawaiian Music Slack Key Show is held Wednesday evenings at Napili Kai Beach Resort’s covered, open-air Aloha Pavilion.
Doors generally open around 5:45 p.m. The performance begins at 6:30 and usually finishes around 8. Food is not served in the pavilion, so the show works best when paired with an earlier meal at Sea House Restaurant or Merriman’s. Reserved, general-admission and kama‘āina tickets are listed by the official show site.
Let The Coastal Trail Set The Pace
A good Kapalua day works much like a well-planned run on the water. Check access first, secure the part that cannot move and leave room for conditions to shape the rest.
The Kapalua Coastal Trail runs north from Kapalua Bay Beach, crosses the dunes at Oneloa Bay, passes through The Ritz-Carlton grounds and continues to D.T. Fleming Beach Park. The Ritz-Carlton describes the main Kapalua Bay-to-D.T. Fleming section as approximately 1.76 miles.
This is a mixed coastal route, not one uniform sidewalk. Expect developed pathway, boardwalk and more exposed shoreline sections. Named points along and around the route include Namalu Bay, Oneloa Bay, Makaluapuna Point and the Dragon’s Teeth lava formations, Honokahua Bay and D.T. Fleming Beach.
A practical morning plan
- Start during the cooler morning hours. Official trail hours run from sunrise to sunset.
- Choose the access point before leaving. Published access points include Kapalua Bay, the Bay Villas beach-access lot, Oneloa Bay, The Ritz-Carlton and D.T. Fleming Beach Park.
- Use the facilities at either end. The official trail guide lists restrooms at Kapalua Bay and D.T. Fleming Beach Park.
- Stay on the marked route. Bicycles, off-road vehicles, smoking and alcohol are prohibited on the trail.
- Read every parking sign. Several trail-access lots have been reported as QR-code pay lots. Posted rates and ticket rules can change, and resort or hotel parking should not be assumed to be general public parking.
There is no reliable universal parking price published on the official trail pages. Build a few minutes into the morning to read the current signs rather than relying on an old rate or a remembered parking routine.
What Has Actually Changed Around The Bay
The most visible 2026 change is at the former Montage property. Marriott began managing the resort on March 14 under the name The Resort at Kapalua Bay, Maui. The property remained open, joined Marriott Bonvoy and is slated to become part of the St. Regis portfolio in 2027 after renovation.
The current dining names reflect that transition. The Restaurant at Kapalua Bay now serves breakfast from 7–11 a.m. and dinner from 5–9 p.m. Its evening programming includes Chef Purpura’s Palate, a three-course tasting menu from Executive Chef Justin Purpura. The resort’s current dining page also lists The Hideaway, The Pool Bar, The Beach Club and Mahana Market.
The practical takeaway is that familiar directions may now lead to unfamiliar names. When meeting friends or making a reservation, use the current resort and restaurant names to reduce confusion.
A few minutes south, Dang Dang Noodles opened at Nāpili Plaza in May. The locally owned concept comes from the team behind Joey’s Kitchen and draws on co-owner Joey Macadangdang’s Filipino roots and Japanese noodle training. The menu includes house-made ramen, udon, chow fun and Thai rice-noodle dishes. Published hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 3–9 p.m.
That opening matters because it gives Kapalua and Nāpili residents another casual dinner choice when a resort meal is more than the evening calls for. The opening announcement also confirms it is a local operation rather than a mainland concept dropped into a resort corridor.
The Barn added another kind of gathering in May. The first Aloha Fridays at Kapalua brought together music by Logan Kalawaia and Josh Kahula, local makers, island fashion and food from Penne Pasta and Kula Kups. Organizers described the free event as quarterly, but the next date had not been published as of July 11. Watch for an official announcement rather than assuming it will fall on a particular August Friday.
One anticipated opening still belongs in the wait-and-see column. Sale Pepe’s Kapalua location was once projected to open in early 2026, but no reliable confirmation shows it operating as of July 11. Do not confuse the proposed Kapalua restaurant with Sale Pepe’s other operating locations and concepts.
A Kapalua Day That Leaves Room To Breathe
If I were hosting friends around the bay, I would keep the plan to three anchors:
- Morning: Walk the Coastal Trail from a confirmed access point, with parking settled before stepping onto the path.
- Late afternoon: Choose between a reservation at The Restaurant at Kapalua Bay or Merriman’s, a casual stop at Oceanfront Point, or noodles at Nāpili Plaza.
- Evening: Match the night to the calendar. That could mean FILMORE, Marty Dread or Kristian Bush on a fixed date, or nightly music at The Hideaway or Alaloa Lounge.
That structure gives the day direction without turning it into a checklist. It also reflects what has changed in Kapalua this summer. There are more worthwhile choices, but the best experience comes from knowing which choice requires a ticket, which needs a table and which can still be decided after sunset.
