Wailea's Holiday Season Is More Public Than the Resort Gates Suggest

On Christmas Eve, Santa comes ashore on Wailea Beach in an outrigger canoe, not a sleigh. Grand Wailea's 2026 festive page has a line of italic type under that listing: This event is open to the public. Movie night on the Chapel Lawn sits a few cards away on the same page, and its line says the opposite: This event is available to our in-house guests only.

If you live a few minutes up Wailea Alanui, that small print decides your December. The resort corridor puts on a full holiday season, and more of it is open to neighbors than the valet stands suggest. Whether you can walk in depends on the event, not the property, and each venue states it differently. Below is the season sorted by access, for anyone who lives here and wants to go.

The access line is printed on each event card

Grand Wailea is the most explicit of the Wailea resorts. Its festive season page marks almost every activity one way or the other. The Holiday Marketplace and Tree Lighting is the one major listing without an access line. Here is the split:

Event Where Access as printed
Holiday Marketplace and Tree Lighting, Dec. 16 Main Lobby, front drive No access line printed
Santa's Arrival on Outrigger, Dec. 24 Wailea Beach Open to the public
Christmas Day Services, Dec. 25 Seaside Chapel Open to the public
Hanukkah Candle Lighting, nightly at sunset Lobby Open to the public
Football Viewing Olivine Open to the public
The Lūʻau at Grand Wailea, select dates, 5:15 to 8:15 p.m. Molokini Garden Open to the public
Christmas Eve Breakfast Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa No reservations required
Keiki Activities Chapel Garden In-house guests only
Movie Night Chapel Lawn In-house guests only

The open events share a pattern. They take place on the sand, in the lobby, in the chapel, or in a restaurant or lūʻau garden where you pay for your seat. The guest-only programming is the children's crafts and the lawn movies, which are amenities for people staying there. A neighbor can fill much of December from the public side of that table without a room key.

Grand Wailea adds one caveat at the top of the page: "Details, Dates & Times of all activities to be confirmed." Check the times again the week of an event, especially for the canoe landing, which runs on the ocean's schedule.

October already runs on the same rule

The holiday season follows an October that already works this way, at a smaller scale. Grand Wailea's events calendar runs an Aloha Festivals series, All Things Hula, every Friday in October from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kilohana, with mele, hula and cultural demonstrations. It is booked through the resort's activity reservation system. Today is Thursday, Oct. 8, so four Fridays remain.

Two ticketed events land this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Candlelight Concerts series comes to Haleakalā Ballroom, with a string quartet playing The Best of Hans Zimmer at 6:15 p.m. and A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac at 8:30 p.m. Doors open 45 minutes before each show, and nobody gets in once a show begins. On Sunday, Oct. 11, Kilolani Salon hosts Bubbles & Blowouts from 2 to 4 p.m. with Oribe master stylist Christopher Valentine, visiting from New York. The $25 ticket can be applied toward an Oribe purchase or a future blowout at the salon.

Down the road, The Shops at Wailea lists three more October dates on its current events calendar:

  • Oct. 23: Maui Community Band on the Lower Level Stage
  • Oct. 24: Keiki Halloween, 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 28: Wailea Wednesdays live music with Arlie Asiu

The Shops has the simplest access rules in Wailea. Its parking page says "Free parking," with one firm limit: "No overnight parking, violators will be towed." The weekly music series is part of the Wednesday routine we covered in our Wailea summer guide.

A new reason to walk into the Four Seasons on an ordinary morning

The most useful opening this fall isn't a holiday event. On Aug. 27, 2026, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea announced Pantry Maui, a café created with the Los Angeles brand Madhappy. The release is plain about access. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. "to resort guests and local visitors."

It is Pantry's first location in Hawaiʻi and the brand's first standalone café. Executive Chef Ryan Schelling and Executive Sous Chef AJ Thalakkat built a menu only available at this resort. It includes a Mango Sticky Rice Matcha Latte, a Banana Coconut Latte, the Poi Coconut Crown pastry made with poi and coconut, and the South Side Acai Bowl with li-hing mui, lychee, haupia, mac nut crumble and lilikoi sauce. Cold-pressed juices come from Maui Juice Co., and the chocolate is made by Lonohana Estate Chocolate from Hawaiʻi-grown cacao.

Pantry is one piece of a property-wide renovation. A redesigned Club Floor opened in May 2026, Kai Holo Spa opened in July 2026, and refreshed guest rooms and suites are scheduled to debut in the fourth quarter of 2026. For neighbors, the café is the part they can use without booking a stay, and it opens early enough for a coffee after a dawn walk on the beach path.

December, in date order

With the access rules above in mind, here is the dated calendar from now to New Year's, using only events posted for 2026:

  1. Nov. 21: Hotel Wailea hosts an Opus One evening in the garden of The Restaurant. A Champagne and canapé reception comes first, then a four-course dinner paired with Opus One wines. Seating is limited and reservations go through the hotel's dining page.
  2. Nov. 26: Thanksgiving at Grand Wailea includes a brunch, a traditional lūʻau with turkey roasted in an underground imu, and seasonal menus at Olivine and Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa.
  3. Dec. 16: Grand Wailea's Holiday Marketplace fills the Main Lobby with Made-on-Maui gifts from more than 40 local vendors. The Tree Lighting Ceremony follows on the front drive, with live entertainment and a countdown. The date falls on a Wednesday this year.
  4. Dec. 19 through Jan. 2: Wailea Beach Resort–Marriott runs its festive season, covered in the next section.
  5. Dec. 22 and 29: A family pizza-making class at Olivine, with sessions at 10, 10:45 and 11:30 a.m., booked through OpenTable.
  6. Dec. 24: Christmas Eve breakfast at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa with no reservation needed, a noon poke-making class at the same restaurant, and Santa's outrigger landing on Wailea Beach, open to the public.
  7. Dec. 25: Two non-denominational services in Grand Wailea's Seaside Chapel, open to the public, and a reservation-only Christmas Day brunch.
  8. Dec. 31: A second poke-making class at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa.

Where the printed guidance stops

Grand Wailea labels nearly every event. The other resorts haven't posted that level of detail yet, and it is better to say so than to guess.

Wailea Beach Resort–Marriott lists a season from Dec. 19, 2026 to Jan. 2, 2027. It includes its own Santa's Arrival by Canoe, Christmas Eve Storytime with Mrs. Claus, holiday crafts, and Nalu Night Slides at the Nalu Adventure Pool, which the resort calls home to Maui's longest resort waterslide, with Mo' Bettah Food Truck on site. The Te Au Moana Luau runs Christmas and New Year's Eve editions, and the New Year's Eve show ends with a champagne toast and fireworks over Wailea Beach. The holiday page doesn't say which of these are open to non-guests. It sends readers to a 2026 festive brochure, which is the place to check before you plan around the canoe or the slides.

We didn't find a 2026 festive schedule from Four Seasons. Its 2025 announcement included a Santa outrigger arrival at Wailea Beach on Dec. 24, 2025, but that was last year's program, not this year's. The Shops at Wailea calendar also stops at Oct. 28 for now, with no November or December tree lighting, Santa visits or holiday concerts listed. Those dates should appear closer to the season.

Getting to the sand this month

Two of the season's biggest public moments happen on the beach, so access to the shoreline matters. Ulua Beach Road's roundabout and part of its parking have been affected by work on the Kihei Wastewater Pump Station No. 9. That work began Aug. 3 and was scheduled to run through Oct. 26, 2026. Maui Now reported that the beach path stays open and parking in the upper section of Ulua Beach Road remains first-come, first-served. We found no progress update after August, so Oct. 26 is still the scheduled end date, not a confirmed one. The Ulua-Mōkapu Beach Park listing from the county notes parking, restrooms and showers, and identifies the Wailea Community Association as the park's private maintainer.

The Keawakapu weekend parking fee is a different story further south, and we covered it in our Wailea Kai piece. For Christmas Eve at Wailea Beach, the most dependable public listing is still Grand Wailea's single italic line: This event is open to the public.

From my years on charter decks, I learned that a good host keeps track of which doors are open to whom, and Wailea's resorts run the same way in December. If you're hosting family this season or thinking about a Wailea home where these traditions are a short walk away, Matt Talbot would be glad to talk through the corridor with you.
