Most of the year, Kaanapali works the way it looks on paper. Resorts, condos, and shops sit in a loose north-to-south string along the beach, and residents pick a lane. You walk to Whalers Village from The Whaler or Kaanapali Alii. You drive up to Fairway Shops for the deli and the nail place. Roy's is a Friday thing. Hula Grill is a sunset thing. The corridor is legible, but it is not connected.
Fall 2026 breaks that pattern for one very specific week. If you own here, the move is to stop treating October as a scatter of hotel promotions and start treating a single Friday-through-Sunday as the neighborhood's most operable weekend of the year.
The thesis, on one date
The week is October 23 through 25. That is the middle weekend of the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, and this year Kāʻanapali, Maui takes the middle weekend, October 23–25, with events posted at Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows. Everything else worth writing about in Kaanapali this fall either points toward that window or sits inside it. Ulu Kitchen at the Westin is now open for the breakfast shift. The Outrigger has posted movie nights two weekends earlier. The free trolley is running its normal 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. loop. Put those pieces on the same calendar and the corridor stops feeling like a resort district and starts feeling like a walkable town for three days.
Friday belongs to the Kaanapali Golf Course
The festival opens on Friday, October 23 with Roy Yamaguchi's Like the Sun Golf Classic. Eighteen holes of championship golf are paired with culinary stops along the course, premium pours, and sweeping ocean views, capped off with an Awards Dinner at Roy's Kaanapali in support of Imua Family Services. The registration is at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.
The chef list is the tell. Alfonso Acevedo of Duke's Beach House Maui, James Domingo of Hula Grill Kaanapali, David Flegel of Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, Zach Seto of Havens Harborside Fish & Chophouse, and Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's Restaurants are all cooking on-course. Four of the five run kitchens residents already eat at every month. Treating Friday afternoon as "the festival is a visitor thing" misses the point. The people making the food are the people making your Tuesday dinner too, just doing it inside the resort corridor instead of behind a pass.
Saturday and Sunday move down the beach
The center of gravity shifts south to the Sheraton on Saturday. Ten celebrated chefs draw inspiration from global traditions to highlight the world's most coveted delicacies at a grand tasting on the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa oceanfront, complemented by champagne, world-class wines, and cocktails, with the evening ending in a drone show. Then on Sunday morning the corridor flips north again for a brunch at Royal Lahaina, where six chefs put the egg center stage in all its forms, poached, fried, cured, baked, paired with rosé and brunch-ready cocktails.
The chefs come from around the world. The ingredients come from a few miles down the road.
That contrast is not decorative. It is the reason the Sheraton lawn and the Royal Lahaina pool deck become the two most interesting rooms on Maui for 48 hours. It is also why tickets to both events sell through before residents get around to booking. This is the calendar item to put on the fridge in August, not October.
Ulu Kitchen is quietly the biggest change to the morning shift
Two miles up the beach, the Westin has replaced its old breakfast concept. Ulu Kitchen by Merriman has opened at the Westin at 2365 Kaanapali Parkway, serving breakfast 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with lilikoi flapjacks, avocado toast, omelettes, and Chef Pete's Benedict on the menu. The location was formerly the Wai Coco restaurant.
For residents, this matters more than a new dinner spot would. Kaanapali has plenty of dinner. What it has been thin on is a walk-up breakfast that a Peter Merriman kitchen is running, one you can reach on foot from The Whaler or by trolley from anywhere else in the corridor. Ulu Kitchen turns the north end of the beach into a legitimate morning anchor, and it happens to be a two-minute walk from where the HFWF brunch is staged that Sunday. Book breakfast for the Saturday of festival weekend and the corridor's rhythm reads: coffee at Ulu, tasting on the Sheraton lawn, dinner wherever your reservation lives.
The free trolley is the parking hack no one uses
Kaanapali parking during festival weekend will be its own event. The workaround has existed for years and residents underuse it. The Kaanapali Trolley runs daily between 10 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. and offers free transportation between Whalers Village, Marriott's Maui Ocean Club, Hyatt Vacation Club, Kaanapali Golf Courses, Fairway Shops, Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows, Maui Kaanapali Villas, Maui Eldorado, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, and OUTRIGGER Kaanapali Beach Resort. The trolley is open to everyone, and no proof of stay is required.

Every one of those stops is on the same 30-minute loop. Skip the $4 Whalers Village parking meter, skip the Sheraton valet line, skip the merge back onto Honoapiilani after dinner.
The two weekends bookending festival week
The Outrigger has already posted the fall movie schedule. Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, 2026 are the outdoor movie nights, complimentary for resort guests, meant for families and couples under the stars. That is the soft opening of the season. Two weeks later the corridor tightens into festival mode, and the following weekend it exhales again.

The move most residents miss
The temptation with a weekend like this is to buy one ticket and call it a festival. That reads the corridor wrong. The value of HFWF for a Kaanapali owner is not the single event you attend. It is that the entire beach corridor operates, for 72 hours, like the small connected town everyone pretends it already is. The trolley runs full. The kitchens are staffed with visiting chefs. Whalers Village stays open late. Ulu Kitchen has a line out the door. Roy's is not just Friday. Hula Grill is not just sunset.
That week is also the best proof you will get all year of what living here actually offers.
